CROP Hunger Walk
Funds are distributed every January to local organizations that respond to the needs of Durham residents in poverty with services of food or shelter. If your organization is interested in applying for a portion of the CROP Walk funds, please email the DCIA office at dcia@dcia.org by October 31. We will need a description of the services your organization provided in the last year, the number of people served, an estimate of your organization’s current budget, the ending financial report for the last fiscal year, a copy of your 501(c)3 letter from the IRS, a list of your membership list, and Board of Directors.
Emergency Food and Shelter Program
Funds are administered on behalf of the Durham Local Board of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program, which distributes federal money allocated to FEMA for local programs providing groceries, meals, shelter, and financial assistance for utility bills and rent to people in crisis. When the Local Board has funding to award, announcements are posted in the Raleigh News & Observer and on the DCIA website.
Food Security Grants
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, DCIA has partnered with the County of Durham to utilize County funds for crisis food assistance. In 2021, that included distribution of micro-grants to 15 organizations for food assistance services. In 2022, DCIA has contracted to distribute $400,000 in food security grants to food assistance programs for Durham residents.
